{Growing Up Handmade} Tour

Over the years I have been able to pinpoint my style and really get into a groove with my sewing, however when sewing for your Tween, things can be a bit more tricky!!!

On top of having to find patterns that are Tween acceptable, I also have to find patterns that are appropriate for my plus-sized Tween! This definitely makes it challenging because not all women's patterns are appropriate for her body no matter how much I alter for her size. I absolutely LOVE to use Love Notions patterns, not only for myself, but for my daughter. I just adore the classic style and simplicity of the patterns as well as the simple details that are included in the pattern that make altering SO MUCH easier!!!!

The Laundry Day Tee (affil. link) is my ABSOLUTE favorite for both of us. I love the fit and flare so that she can still feel girly, yet it gives her the extra room that she needs in the midsection. It is such an awesome pattern to use and turn into some cute graphic tees that tweens so love. My daughter is in Girl Scouts right now, so she thought that the 'Future Leader' graphic from Thread and Grain was perfect!

I had made myself some pants out of this floral french terry from So Sew English and my daughter fell in LOVE so I knew that I had to make her a tee from it. She said that it was the softest most coziest thing that she has ever worn. I really just makes my heart so happy that I can provide her with clothing that fits her correctly and she can be comfortable in and not self conscious.

As for the shorts that she is wearing, they are the Reef Walkers (aff. link) from New Horizon Patterns and she just adores them for their longer length...she isn't much of a fan of short shorts and I am TOTALLY good with that! I find that they are more sophisticated than some bottom patterns out there which translate well for the tweens ;) The contrast of the ribbed waistband with the eyelets for a drawstring is really what makes these great for the older ones because they look more like RTW. You can find a more detailed review of them HERE.

Thank you so much for stopping by and make sure to check out the other amazing inspiration for your tween along the way!!!!

  3. A friend of my daughters was remarking how difficult it was to find shorts and tops for her daughter. She said they all look slutty and she wants her daughter to dress modest. I asked her if she could sew because I have seen so many girls with Mama made shorts and tops that are great. No she doesn't. It is with it to give it a try as it is not near as difficult as navigating a cell phone. Great job. You daughter is so pretty.

  5. Oh, love these... My tween (almost teen!) is just starting to be in adult sizes and I think I have that shorts pattern. I just downloaded and made up my first LDT as well, so that's going to work well for us! :) Great job!!

  9. Courtney, your daughter always warms my heart. I LOVE seeing your males for her. She always looks so happy and confident and she'll need that strength of character as she gets older. I really must get some of this floral french terry too; I fall for it every single time I see it made up.
